4 Electronic Cigarette Myths

There are still many myths and misconceptions about electronic cigarettes from smokers, the FDA, state and federal regulators, cigar smokers and anti-smoking groups.

What are some of the facts? eSmokes.com dug deep this week to find 5 common myths about electronic cigarettes.

1. Electronic Cigarettes Contain Anti-Freeze

This one might seem crazy, but was manifested by an FDA press release in 2009. The truth is that the liquid in an electronic cigarette is made of propylene glycol, an ingredient recognized as safe for human consumption by the FDA. But here is the interesting part that misleads many people. While propylene glycol is sometimes used in anti-freeze, it is an additive intended to make it LESS harmful if accidentally swallowed. So it is not anti-freeze, but an ingredient that makes up antifreeze.

2. There Are Carcinogens In E-Cigarettes That Are As Deadly As Those In Cigarettes

Again this way stated by the FDA, that was then used by the media and health organizations to put a bad rap on electronic cigarettes. The low down on this is that the FDA found trace amounts of “tobacco-specific nitrosamines” in the samples they tested but they did not release any information on the levels they found, however, the scientific definition of “trace amount” means amounts that are “detectable,” but too small to even accurately measure.

3. The Vapor Produced By Electronic Cigarettes Is A Threat Much Like 2nd Hand Smoke

This one was started by the loud anti-smoking groups when they made a claim without any backed evidence to their case. Traditional tobacco cigarettes create what is called “side stream smoke,” which is the smoke that comes directly from the end of a lit cigarette and the smoke lingers in the air and travels a fair distance from the smoker. E-Cig smoke does not behave in the same manor as cigarette smoke. There is no vapor produced from the device, until the user activates it by inhaling, so there is no “side stream vapor” is created and the vapor dissipates very quickly. In the event that a bystander would pass through the vapor, since it doesn’t contain the irritating toxins of tobacco smoke, it would likely be barely detectable beyond the faint scent of the flavor and only for a fleeting moment.

4. Electronic Cigarettes Lead To Cigarette Smoking

The reverse is true for this one. Through the actions of our customers here at eSmokes, we have found that many users of electronic cigarettes actually cut back on their use of traditional cigarettes and in some cases have quit tobacco products entirely. The flavors offered by ecigs, the clean smell and the ability to smoke almost anywhere is a win-win scenario for most smokers and moves them further and further away from big tobacco like Marlboro, Camel and the like.

But the proof is really in testing it out yourself. Read our electronic cigarette reviews and see for yourself why these myths are just that, myths.

Is Indonesia The Next Big Market For Cigarette Brands?

We all know that in America there is new form of racism.  The racism against smokers.  People tend to look at us funny and not want anything to do with us when we are in a public location.  Don’t believe me, just go to LA and light up a smoke and see what happens.  People give you looks like you are the devil himself.  I’ve seen it first hand.  I actually had to go to the bathroom to see if I had something written on my face or something.

Because of this a lot of the big brands are looking abroad at their new markets to find the new groups that are still smoking and not apart of our nanny state.

Indonesia is the 5th biggest market for cigarettes, behind China, U.S., Russia and Japan.  But the thing is that Indonesians aren’t really that fond of the regular cigarette they would rather have a clove cigarette.  They tend to smoke blends of tobacco and cloves called a kreteks.

Marlboro now has their hand in this pie with the take over of the controlling interest in Sampoerna with a big check of $5.2 billion.  This actually make a new record for the Indonesian culture in that this is the biggest price a foreign company has ever paid for a Indonesian company.

Once this was completed and everything was put in place, they rolled out a new cigarette called the Marlboro Mix 9.  Which is actually a lot stronger than any other cigarette they currently sell in America.
